Non-Discriminatory Policy St. Bonaventure School, mindful of its mission to be witness to the love of Christ for all, admits students of any race, color and national and/or ethnic origins to all the rights, privileges, programs and school activities generally accorded to or made available to students at the school. St. Bonaventure School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color or national and/or ethnic origin in administration of educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs and athletic and other school- administered programs. Age Requirements for Admission to Grades K-2 Children are eligible for admission into Kindergarten if they have reached the age of five years on or before August 31. Children are eligible for admission into first grade if they have reached the age of six years on or before August 31. Children are accepted into second grade if they have reached the age of seven years on or before August 31. Priority of Admission The criteria used by the School Admissions Committee to determine eligibility for admission are prioritized as follows: 1. Student Readiness Each child must meet social, emotional, and academic readiness standards before other criteria can be considered. 2. Parish Participation Catholic children will be given priority whose parents/guardians: · are enrolled (registered) members of St. Bonaventure Parish · support St. Bonaventure Church by regular use of Sunday envelopes (evaluation based on a consistent pattern of Sunday Mass attendance, not the dollar amount of financial contribution) · actively participate in parish activities 3. Enrollment of Siblings Children who have a sibling enrolled in St. Bonaventure School will be given priority over those who do not. 4. Children from Other Parishes A letter of recommendation from a pastor regarding parish participation is required for: · Catholic students transferring from another Catholic school · Catholic children/students from a local parish that does not have a school 5. Children of Other Faith traditions If there are openings available, children of other Faith Traditions will be considered. Starting the Admissions Process Applications for admission can be downloaded from our website or can be picked up in the school office. A separate application needs to be submitted for each child, including any siblings who do not already attend. The following documents must be submitted with your application: 2) copy of Baptismal certificate 3) photo (Kindergarten & 1st grade only) 4) current report cards and standardized test scores (grades 1-8) 5) Certificates of First communion and Reconciliation, if applicable Important: Your application is not complete without these documents. Copies can be made in the school office as needed. Immunization and health records will not be collected with your application, but will need to be submitted if/when your child is accepted. All children applying for admission will be tested for appropriate placement. An application must be on file prior to testing. All new students, including Kindergarten children, are placed on academic and conduct probation for the first year. If a student cannot adjust to school regulations or meet the academic requirements, he/she may be asked to transfer to another school. |
