Disaster Plan
Disaster Release Procedure- Students will evacuate the school building and line up at predetermined stations on the school playground.
- All school gates will be closed and locked.
- When notified, students will be led to the athletic field. Older children will "buddy" with younger children.
- Students will be released to persons listed on the Disaster Information Form or the Health Room Emergency card only.
- In order to pick up a student, an authorized person must report to the Emergency Operations and Release Center.
- This Center will be found at the walkers' gate near the Junior High lunch area.
- Do not omit this step. It is necessary that we know who has left the grounds and with whom.
- Students will remain under the supervision of school personnel until directed by the Red Cross or City of Huntington Beach officials to move to an evacuation center.
Fire
At the beginning of the school year, children are instructed in the proper procedures to be followed during a fire drill. Safety drills are held once a month.
Earthquakes
- Students are instructed on the procedures to be followed in case of an earthquake. Drop drills are held regularly. The Red Cross has advised us that "drop and cover" is still the most effective way to save lives in case of earthquakes in California
- The school building has been completely retrofitted to meet California building codes.
- A written crisis plan is in place.
- Each student is assessed an annual earthquake/disaster fee (in the registration fee) which is used to purchase food and other emergency essentials.
- Both school and Extended Day employees have CPR and First Aid training; a portable defibrillator is on campus for emergency use.
