Student Wellness at St. Bonaventure Catholic School

At St. Bonaventure Catholic School, student well-being is foundational to learning, growth, and daily life at school. Our wellness program supports the social, emotional, physical, and spiritual development of each child within a caring, faith-centered community.

St. Bonaventure is proud to have a full-time school counselor on campus who supports students through individual check-ins, short-term counseling, and guidance as needs arise. School counseling services are educational and preventative in nature, focusing on social-emotional skill development, problem-solving, emotional regulation, and support with school-related challenges. The counselor also partners closely with teachers to deliver social-emotional learning in the classroom, helping students build skills such as self-awareness, empathy, problem-solving, and healthy communication. Through classroom lessons, small-group support, and collaboration with families, our wellness program promotes healthy coping skills, positive relationships, and responsible decision-making.

St. Bonaventure also nurtures the spiritual well-being of our students through meaningful opportunities to deepen their faith. Students participate in religion classes, daily prayer, weekly Mass, schoolwide, retreats, and the use of the Hallow app to support reflection, mindfulness, and prayer. These experiences help students grow in their relationship with God while fostering a sense of purpose, gratitude, and compassion.

Beyond the classroom, St. Bonaventure Catholic School prioritizes active play and positive peer interaction through enhanced recess and lunch experiences. Our campus features a variety of engaging play options including basketball, pickleball, gaga ball, volleyball, football toss, cornhole, and our playground structure, along with rotating activities so students always have something new and exciting to enjoy. These opportunities encourage movement, teamwork, and joyful connection while supporting overall physical and mental well-being.

Together, our wellness initiatives nurture the whole child, mind, body, and spirit, helping every student feel supported, confident, and ready to thrive.

  • How School Counseling Works at SBS

School counseling at St. Bonaventure Catholic School is preventative, educational, and short-term in nature. The school counselor supports students through individual check-ins, small-group support, and classroom-based social-emotional learning lessons focused on skill-building and school-related challenges.

Counseling support may also include providing a trusted space for students to talk, reflect, and feel heard as they navigate academic, social, or personal concerns. This support emphasizes guidance, problem-solving, and healthy coping skills within the school setting.

Support may be initiated through teacher referrals, parent communication, or counselor observation. Families are partners in this process, and collaboration with parents is an important part of supporting student growth.

School counseling is not therapy and does not replace outside mental health services. When a student’s needs extend beyond the scope of school-based support, families may be encouraged to seek additional services in the community.
